Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl

From the director of Band baaja baraat comes another movie with the same star cast Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh in lead roles. Apart from the “ayinvayi ayinvayi” jodi we have Parineeti Chopra, Aditi Sharma and Dippanita Sharma who play meaty roles in this movie which is a romantic comedy with a con angle. From the teaser and title the plot was a giveaway and now it was left to the director to entertain us inspite, and boy, did he do a good job.

Ricky Bahl is a con who survives on making money by trapping women and extracting money out of them. He is a smooth operator and he does an act on a woman, swindles her money and takes flight. He moves from city to city and one such con puts Raina (Diappanita) in big soup costing her job. She vows to find this guy on media and two other women who have been similarly trapped contact her after hearing her story. They get together to plot a reverse con on him to get their money back. Their version of Hitch is Anushka Sharma who is an ace saleswoman in a hypermarket. They track him down and put their plan in motion. They plant Anushka and the prey falls for the bait but before the con can be executed fully he finds out about their plan. He also finds himself in love with his reverse conner who is just as much in love with him. From there the movie moves towards an end that isn’t unusual in Hindi movies and let’s face it, we love it that way. We want the heroes to get their heroines and heroines to get their heroes.

Ranveer is excellent as the con man. He looks every bit a smooth operator. He brings out style and executes different shades needed in different parts of the movie very naturally. This is a refreshing change from his role in Band baaja baraat. Anushka’s role is the same as Band baaja baraat. Her sentimental side is exposed a little bit towards the end but majorly the role is pretty much similar and quite frankly, she is getting typecasted. She does justice to her role. Dippanita looks mechanical as the tough girl and Aditi Sharma looks decent in her role as the small town girl. Parineeti Chopra steals the show. She is refreshing and does her job as the bubbly Punjab di kudi to perfection. Her comedy timing is excellent and her ease with dialogues and scenes are commendable to watch. She is by far the most delightful character in the movie followed by Ranveer.

The movie is a good watch. A lot of it can be anticipated but the delivery is executed with some finesse. The con acts are shown nicely. It doesn’t leave any gaping holes in the script which is where Maneesh Sharma has to be commended. The script is watertight screenplay is brilliant and the actors bring life to a tale that can otherwise be easily disoriented.

What would do you do after a hard day’s work? The most important agenda is to relax. You would go get a beer with a friend; you would go home and watch your favorite TV show or end up taking a hot shower which comes as such a relief in this chill. Try Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl as a substitute to any of those activities and you won’t regret it. It is fun and fun is good.
