Love 2 Hate U – featuring Chetan Bhagat

I am not big on TV shows but this one is eye catching. Hate is a much stronger emotion than love and on this show Arjun Rampal brings a hater of Chetan Bhagat who was so thorough in her hatred that she couldn’t actually be made to see another point of view.

I am going to say a few things here but first a disclaimer. This is the first and only episode of Love2 Hate U that I have seen and my writing is generally impulsive so it doesn’t really understand the strategic depths of what the show wants to achieve. I am going to say things on the face of it knowing what I know about Chetan and what I know of people like @polyesterparo aka Roshni.

Firstly I do not understand the problem of the hater here. She has a number of problems which do not really evoke an emotion as strong as hatred for example the kind of English Chetan Bhagat uses etc. She also seems to have a problem with Chetan Bhagat’s self proclaimed youth icon image. Chetan did come out and say that he had never claimed himself to be a youth icon but then dude, if you come out and say things in defense of IITs and comment about the dismal education system of India you are representing the aggrieved community. The aggrieved community is (surprise!) the youth. He also comes out to say that he has a right to be stupid some times. Nobody is taking that away from you, trust me.
One thing we have to agree when we look at the episode is how juvenile the hater is. She is almost hyper to a point that her hatred comes out like spitfire. She did quote a line from Chetan Bhagat’s book which was clearly off color. Honestly, if we do take a look at literature available books come with very vivid lines exposing sexuality that can put a porn star to shame. The amusing part was Chetan’s defense to that line. All he could muster was “so what” instead of pointing out to the plethora of literature available to the world. I think the hater was most aggrieved with Chetan’s confused identity as a youth icon that falls woefully short thanks to, quoting Chetan himself here, his stupidity. The episode ends bringing out a pissed Chetan Bhagat talking about someone who is amongst people he is influencing but hasn’t quite convinced.

Overall the whole episode was just like a Chetan Bhagat book. Absolutely no literary value, lot of masala and still entertaining enough for the time being. We can’t deny Chetan’s success. He has got a lot of people to start reading and he does have 5 successful books to talk of which a couple of them have sold more than a million copies each. He has a knack of storytelling and does it well. I think we should stop it there. To extrapolate that he is be something else is a gross mistake. Ms.Roshini as easy as it is to hate so it is not to hate. In the world around us so many things keep happening. Just because a neighbor gets injured while driving you don’t stop driving, right? The same way the choice to get influenced lies solely with us. If you are reading the right people to draw influence you will at the end of the day. I will leave you with one thought, if someone had to ask you to talk about something you love please ask yourself if you would come out with an argument as passionate as the one in the episode.
