Knight and Day

am a little late on this one. But still a couple of words have to be said about the action/romantic/comedy Knight and Day. James Mangold, the director, got his cast right by picking Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. But what he missed was shooting the movie 10 years ago. Probably then, the lines on the faces of these aged actors wouldn’t have been so visible. Make no mistake, both of them were brilliant and delivered to their reputations. Tom Cruise was serious, sexy, all-action and mumbled his jokes. Diaz was hot, squealy and squeaky, hyper active and matched Cruise’s pace and action. But still, Cruise is almost 50 and Diaz looks old enough at 38. I don’t understand why them?

Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) is a secret agent turned fugitive on the run. He has a battery that is the size of a torch’s battery which can illuminate a small town. The bad guys are after it. He uses June Havens (Cameron Diaz) as the carrier of the battery through security in an airport. She finds him cute and he falls for her. Then there is a series of chases where the bad guys and the cops are after Roy and June who have the battery and the wonder kid who created this battery. Almost every means of transport available is portrayed in the movie. Bullets and vehicles are constantly chasing the two of them and like any movie would have it he escapes with almost no injury every time. Some of the scenes resembled Mission Impossible and some look like taken from one of the movies of the Bourne series. I won’t compare this to anywhere near Bourne. The authenticity of Jason Bourne comes no where near the almost Superman, Roy Miller. The movie is a Hollywood masala flick. It’s got the usual macho action scenes, witty one liners and two actors living it up. All in all, the movie offers everything you expect and sadly, nothing more.

The movie is worth a one-time-watch. You expect a Cruise-Diaz flick to be good. It is good. If it had been shot 7 or 10 years ago it would have been fantastic. It would have been more realistic. The movie feels very old because the cast feels very old. I hope this doesn’t trigger a Morgan Freeman action flick opposite Halle Berry. I mean, Cmon!!Inception
