KAMINEY

Dhan te nan!! I finally got to watch the 14th Aug released Kaminey. The much awaited and much acclaimed movie. The media had started raving about the movie pointing out some brilliant performances. The movie did live upto its expectations.

Vishal Bharadwaj pulls out yet another story from his book. The story like his other movies is set in a contemporary time, talks about little known lives and has a certain darkness to it. The movie is about two brothers who decide to take different paths in life after their father’s death, how their lives intertwine and the resurfacing of old love for family. The movie is a fast paced thriller and will keep the audience guessing. The turn around of events can be expected but the style in which Vishal presents it is the charm of the movie. Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra did read the recipe of the script very well. They have come out with some brilliant performances. Shahid has been a critic’s bunny with accusations ranging from an SRK dupe to only-a-chocolate-boy hero. He seemed to have silenced them and might have even caught them dumbstruck. The dual role has sharp contrasts and he brings them out in elegance. It shows the maturity of Shahid over the years and as per me he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

To talk about Priyanka Chopra, the more I see of her the more I am impressed. She is not in a hurry to sign movies. She chooses her scripts very well and somehow she is probably the only actor I have known who has played very little arm candy in her career. She has taken her performance to another level in Kaminey. She played the “Marathi mulgi” role to perfection, so much so that she looks authentic. The chemistry between Shahid and Priyanka deserves a special mention. It is surreal.

Vishal Bharadwaj brings another classic to the silver screen. Expect the movie to be dark, expect it to have very little background music, expect it to have great performances even by the support characters and he delivers all that. If you know Vishal’s movies you are walking into a typical one in Kaminey. This movie is in the reckoning for the awards atleast for the performances. Kudos Mr.Bharadwaj!!
